Bring your coach into the AI you already use

Pensy runs an MCP server (the Model Context Protocol, the open standard AI assistants use to connect to apps). Add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code, and your assistant can bring your goals, commitments and coaching context into whatever you're working on, and update Pensy when you ask.

It signs in as you, with the permissions you approve. Connecting is free with a Pensy account.

Connect your assistant

You need a Pensy account first. Each assistant signs in to it once; after that it works in every chat where you switch Pensy on.

Claude

  1. On claude.ai, open Customize → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Pensy, paste the server address and choose Connect.
  3. Pensy opens in your browser. Sign in if it asks, check what the assistant may do, and choose Allow.
  4. In a chat, choose + → Connectors and switch Pensy on.
  • Free plans allow one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds Pensy and each member connects their own Pensy account.
  • A connector added on claude.ai also works in Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps.

ChatGPT

  1. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins and choose + → Add custom MCP server.
  2. Name it Pensy, paste the server address and set authentication to OAuth. Accept the warning and choose Create as a plugin.
  3. Install it from the Personal tab. Pensy opens in your browser. Sign in if it asks, check what the assistant may do, and choose Allow.
  4. Use it with @Pensy in a chat.
  • Reading works on any plan with custom MCP servers. Making changes in Pensy needs write access, which ChatGPT offers on Business, Enterprise and Edu (in beta); Pro can only read, in developer mode.
  • ChatGPT may save what it reads from Pensy into its own memory.

Claude Code

  1. Run this in your terminal:
    claude mcp add --transport http pensy https://pensy.ai/api/mcp
  2. In Claude Code, type /mcp and choose pensy. Pensy opens in your browser. Sign in if it asks, check what the assistant may do, and choose Allow.
  • A connector you added on claude.ai is picked up automatically when Claude Code signs in with the same Claude account.

Cursor

  1. Add Pensy to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (every project) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project):
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "pensy": {
          "url": "https://pensy.ai/api/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. The first time Cursor uses it, Pensy opens in your browser. Sign in if it asks, check what the assistant may do, and choose Allow.

VS Code

  1. Run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, choose HTTP and paste the server address, or add this to your mcp.json:
    {
      "servers": {
        "pensy": {
          "type": "http",
          "url": "https://pensy.ai/api/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. Start the server when VS Code asks. Pensy opens in your browser. Sign in if it asks, check what the assistant may do, and choose Allow.
  3. Use Pensy's tools from Copilot Chat in agent mode.

Any other MCP client

  1. Any assistant that connects to remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP works with the same address. Pensy signs it in with OAuth 2.1 (PKCE and dynamic client registration).
  2. If it can't sign in with OAuth, create a personal access token in Pensy under Settings → Connected AI Assistants and send it as Authorization: Bearer <token>.
  3. Tool limit? Connect with fewer tools by adding ?toolsets=core to the address (also: relationships, goals, health, finance, calendar):
    https://pensy.ai/api/mcp?toolsets=core,goals

Things to ask

Once it's connected, just ask. Your assistant picks the right Pensy tool.

  • “What did I commit to this week, and what's overdue?”
  • “Check my Pensy profile before you help me plan the week.”
  • “Log a check-in in Pensy: energy 3, mood 4.”
  • “Tell Pensy I sent the proposal today, and log it as a win.”
  • “Ask Pensy how I should approach my one-on-one with Sam tomorrow.”
  • “Remember in Pensy that I'm training for a half marathon in April.”
  • “What has Pensy noticed about my sleep lately?”
  • “Add dinner with Mom on Sunday at 6 to my Pensy calendar.”

What you allow

Pensy's consent screen shows which of these the assistant is asking for before you choose Allow. A personal access token can have any of them, so you can give an assistant read-only access.

  • Read what Pensy knows about you

    Your profile, memories, relationships, goals, moods, health, finances, calendar, reports and conversations.

  • Update your Pensy records

    Log moods, check-ins, decisions and wins; add or change memories, goals, habits, boundaries, events and more.

  • Talk to Pensy for you

    Send messages to your coach and receive replies. Uses your plan's message allowance.

Pensy tells every connected assistant to write only what you said or asked for, to confirm with you before deleting anything, and to point you to a crisis line first if you might be at risk.

What it never does

  • See your password, or change your email, your plan or your billing.
  • Delete your Pensy account.
  • Get anything you didn't allow: it can use only the permissions on the consent screen you approved.
  • See what you've told your other AI assistants, unless you choose to share it in Pensy.

Privacy

What your assistant reads from Pensy goes to the company that runs it, under your account with them and their privacy terms. Pensy sees the requests your assistant makes, not your conversation with it.

Pensy never sells your data or uses it to train AI models. The details are in the Privacy Policy.

Disconnect

In Pensy, open Settings → Connected AI Assistants and choose the bin icon next to the assistant. It loses access at once.

Removing Pensy inside your assistant stops it using Pensy, but Pensy isn't always told, so disconnect it in Settings too. A personal access token can be set to expire, and deleting your Pensy account disconnects every assistant.

Questions

What does connecting Pensy to my AI assistant do?
Your assistant can read what Pensy knows about you (your goals, commitments, the people in your life and how your weeks have gone), keep it up to date when you ask, and talk to Pensy for you. So when you plan your week in Claude or think something through in ChatGPT, your coaching context comes with you.
Is Pensy in the Claude or ChatGPT directory?
Not yet. You add Pensy yourself as a custom connector, with the address https://pensy.ai/api/mcp. Pensy is independent and isn't affiliated with Anthropic or OpenAI.
Does connecting cost extra?
No. Connecting is free with any Pensy account. Reading and updating your Pensy records through your assistant doesn't use messages; asking Pensy for coaching through it uses your messages, the same as chatting in the app (the first 20 are free).
Which assistants work?
Any assistant that can add a remote MCP server over Streamable HTTP: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code among them. Whether yours can depends on its plan and settings: Claude's free plan allows one custom connector, and ChatGPT needs a plan with custom MCP servers.
What can't a connected assistant do?
It can't see your password, change your plan or billing, delete your account or change your email. It never sees what you tell your other assistants unless you choose to share it in Pensy. It acts only within the permissions you allowed when you connected.
Where does what my assistant reads go?
To the company that runs your assistant, under your account with them, and under their privacy terms. Some assistants, ChatGPT among them, may save what they read into their own memory. Pensy never sells your data or uses it to train AI models.
